STRADA ANTICA A STRADA TARAVESA - SOLLACARO/PALNECA

An important transhumance route ran up the valley from the Filitosa plains to the Verdi and Cuscionu estives. From May to November, or from June to October, shepherds and their families moved to the high pastures. Here, their herds found rich, abundant grass that gave their cheeses an incomparable taste.
This path serves the valley's villages, which are linked to it by a network of footpaths. It first climbs up to the left bank of the Tàravu, where there are links to San Petru, Santu Ustasgiu, Càstula and Vaccia. Then, after crossing the Genoese di a Trinità bridge, it enters the Altu Tàravu at Currà and passes along the right bank to Palleca.
For the inhabitants of Altu Tàravu, this path also enabled them to go down to cultivate cereals on the fertile plains.
Each village had its own reserved area, which in the 19th century was divided up and given to families. Many became sedentary.
The Strada Taravesa was a major economic axis.
Along the way, you can discover the valley's main archaeological sites, renowned for their statue-menhirs and torri (Balestra and Foci), concentrated mainly in the Filitosa area.
The distribution of these sites all along the way attests to their use since at least the Bronze Age. Then, during the Middle Ages, Romanesque chapels added their new sacredness to this ancient path.
For more than 4,000 years, men and their herds followed in the footsteps of their ancestors.

STRADI ANTICHI

Stradi Antichi are walking and hiking itineraries that cross territories along traditional paths that once served as points of exchange between village communities.

Moving between plains and mountains, the Stradi Antichi allow visitors to discover rural heritage and economic activities. Working heritage, with wheat fields, fountains, terraced cultivation, etc.; natural heritage, with the different levels of vegetation and associated crops; historical heritage, with sites from all eras; intangible heritage, with legends and traditions, farms, outdoor activities, etc.

The Stradi Antichi provide a link between villages and territories, giving visitors the opportunity to build a coherent discovery of Corsica.
